Buycostumes.com Review

Can you believe that Halloween is almost here? My boys can't wait and have actually enjoyed trick-or-treating at their youth group and elementary school. This year I was thrilled to review a costume for myself thanks to Buycostumes.com.

Browsing through their website, there were so many choices. But since my oldest son loves Harry Potter, I was specifically looking for one of the characters so I could play along with him when he dresses up.  I decided on Luna Lovegood because she is such a fun character in the movies. When the costume arrived, I tried it on right away-especially since my boys were dying to see me in it. It comes with a Hogwarts uniform style robe with the Ravenclaw emblem on it, a blond wig, and a wand. Buycostumes.com also sent me the Spectra Specs, which I feel are absolutely necessary to complete this costume.
My thoughts: I love this costume! On Friday, I chaperoned a middle school dance, so I was able to get the reactions of my coworkers. The robe and wig were comfortable to wear. The robe, however, is one size fits all, and since I am only five foot one, it was a little long on me. I decided to wear heels to the dance and it still dragged on the floor. But this didn't bother me, I just lifted it up a little when I moved. A few of my coworkers did not even recognize me-I am not normally a blond. And they loved the Spectra Specs! These glasses are heavy-duty too so they will not break easily.

Now I know that Halloween is right around the corner, but right now they have a post-Halloween clearance sale going on, and of course they have costumes for other occasions such as Thanksgiving or Christmas. And for my two boys, any day is a great day to dress up as their favorite character. So if you are looking for a costume, for any occasion, check out Buycostumes.com.

Disclosure: I received the above costume to review. No other compensation was received. All opinions are my own and my honest opinion of the product.

Tiny Prints Holiday Cards

Did you know that there are only 63 days left until Christmas? So although Halloween is not even here yet, it is time to start thinking about Christmas cards and presents. For the past few years, I have been sending personalized photo Christmas cards and this year will be no exception. As I think about the Christmas cards I receive every year, the photo cards are always my favorite.

This year I am looking to order my Christmas cards through Tiny Prints. As I browsed their website, they have a huge collection of Holiday cards. It would have been a hard choice, except I knew that I wanted the cards to have a religious theme, which narrowed down my choices. Right now I am trying to choose between two different cards: Shimmering Star and Twinkling Night. There are a few things that I like about these two cards. First, their focus is on the birth of our Savior. Second, there are three color choices for each card. Now with both of the cards I have selected, there is only room for one photo, which is what I was looking for. But if you are looking to have multiple photos on your card, they have plenty of cards to choose from, such as Photo Wishes, which has room for 8 different photos.

As I was browsing the Tiny Prints website, I also noticed that they have Holiday Card Inserts-so if you are looking to add a newsletter to your cards, you might want to check these out. Usually we just send out Christmas cards, but this year had so many events to share, I might consider a newsletter myself.

So if you are looking to add a personalized touch to your Christmas cards this year, you might want to check out Tiny Prints.

Disclosure: I will be receiving 50 free Christmas cards in exchange for this post. No other compensation will be received. However, all opinions are my own and my honest opinion.

Judy Moody and the NOT Bummer Summer DVD Review

Over the summer, my oldest son had a few movies he hoped to catch in the theater. While we were able to catch two together as a family, the summer quickly went and the fall was here. One of the movies he wanted to watch was Judy Moody and the NOT Bummer Summer. He had seen the trailer on TV and thought that it looked funny-and I thought so too. Here is a synopsis of the movie:

The first film adaptation of the beloved children's book series, JUDY MOODY AND THE NOT BUMMER SUMMER, by Megan McDonald with illustrations by Peter H. Reynolds, is a delightfully, laugh-out-loud hilarious treat for adventure-loving kids, tweens and adults.

Feisty, fearless Judy Moody (Jordana Beatty) is looking forward to the most super-duper, double-rare summer vacation ever. The trouble is, her parents are called out of town and her BFFs are going away with their own families. That leaves Judy trapped at home with her pesky brother Stink (Parris Mosteller) under the watchful eye of Aunt Opal (Heather Graham). But with a little playful planning-and a lot of imagination-Judy turns a snoresville summer into the way-not-boring adventure of a lifetime!

Our thoughts: My kids loved this movie! It is definitely family-friendly and full of plenty of laughs! It kept our interest throughout the whole movie. At first Judy is so concerned about thrill points, that she doesn't realize all of the adventures she is having throughout the summer. And I love how in the end, she ends up pairing up with her brother to have the ultimate adventure of her summer! Full of silliness-my boys really enjoyed this movie!

Disclosure: I received a copy of the DVD to review. No other compensation was received. All opinions are my own and are my honest opinion of the product.

Party City Costume Review

Looking for that last minute costume or accessory for Halloween? You might want to check out Party City-either online or at your local store. When shopping for party supplies or decorations, I always shop at Party City because they have such a huge selection, and before I started looking online we would always visit our local Party City for our Halloween Costumes. As most of you know, now when I look to buy costumes, I check out the stores online. There is a greater selection to choose from and I can do it from the comfort of my own home.

Recently we had another chance to review costumes and accessories for Party City. This time we picked from the selection of men's costumes giving my husband a chance to review a costume. He has been wanting a Ninja costume for a long time now, so it was an easy choice on his behalf. He chose the Adult Black Ninja Costume. When it arrived in the mail, he tried it on and was not disappointed. It came with just about everything you would need to look like a ninja. It comes with a black hood and face cover, black ninja coat, black pants, black belt, and black gloves. The costume is very comfortable, especially the pants which he will wear even if he is not wearing the costume. My boys were very excited when he tried it on and immediately wanted to play ninjas. Although it does not come with a sword, there are plenty of options to choose from on their website. At our house, we had some already so this was not a problem.

We also reviewed the Darth Vader Lightsaber. In the summer, I had the chance to review the boys Darth Vadar costume from Party City, so this is the perfect accessory for my son's Halloween costume. This lightsaber extends to over 3 feet and lights up as well. He can't wait for Halloween to show his friends. I love that the lightsaber lights up, which will be perfect to light the way when trick-or-treating. And for $9.99, it was well worth the price.

So are you ready for Halloween? Whether you need costumes, accessories, party supplies, or decorations, Party City is the place to check out.

Disclosure: We received the above products to review. No other compensation was received. All opinions are my own and my honest opinion of the products.

Boogie Wipes Review and Giveaway

It seems like as soon as the kids go back to school, the colds begin. In September, both my boys, husband, and myself had terrible colds. Besides feeling terrible, sometimes a tissue does not cut it-especially when you have used so many that your nose is raw. As a result, I was interested in trying out Boogie Wipes. Here is a little about Boogie Wipes from their website:

Boogie Wipes are made with natural saline to dissolve boogies (mucus) caused by the common cold, allergies or otherwise booger-filled kid moments. Extra soft, alcohol, phthalate and paraben free, Boogie Wipes are available in Great Grape, Fresh Scent, Minty Menthol and Simply Unscented. Recommended by pediatricians as a gentle, effective alternative to a dry tissue.

My thoughts: I was sent a Great Grape Scented 30 pack, as well as 9 individual packs in Great Grape, Fresh Scent, and Minty Menthol. While, I thought that saline wipes would be a great alternative to the tissue, I was skeptical whether I would like using scented wipes-especially grape. But I was surprised, I liked using the grape and it was so soft. My boys were excited to try them out too and they make it so easy to clean up runny or crusty noses!

Win it: One lucky reader will win (2) packs of the 30-count wipes (scents chosen by sponsor).

Mandatory Entry: Leave a comment letting me know which scent would be your favorite (Great Grape, Fresh Scent, Minty Menthol, or Unscented).

Extra Entries:
1) Become a follower of my blog through google connect (this counts if you are already a follower too.)
2) "Like" Dealightfully Frugal on facebook and leave your username.
3) "Like" Boogie Wipes on facebook and leave your username.
4) Follow me on Twitter and leave your username.
 5) Follow Boogie Wipes on Twitter and leave your username.

Please make sure to leave a separate comment for each entry, as well as your email in one of the comments.

The Garfield Show: Spooky Tails DVD Review

Can you believe that Halloween is almost here? If you are looking for a non-scary Halloween show to watch with your kids, you could check out The Garfield Show: Spooky Tails. Here is the synopsis:

Follow the witty and silly duo as they run into spooky trouble again! It's all fun and games for Garfield and Odie as they take a fun-filled trip on Halloween until Garfield is mistaken by a loose wild cat! Includes other out-of-this-world adventures!

My thoughts: I can remember reading the Garfield comics as a kid, as well as watching both a Garfield Halloween and Christmas special at the holidays. I was excited to sit down and watch the DVD with my boys. The first episode called Orange and Black is the Halloween show where Garfield faces Catzilla. The other five episodes are called: The Robot, It's a Cat World, Time Master, Virtualodeon, and Mastermind. We all enjoyed sitting down and watching the episodes together. One of my favorite episodes was Mastermind. In this episode Garfield puts on a mind-reading helmet and learns that two humans are actually aliens in disguise who want to take over his favorite pizza place and then Earth. The question is will he be able to help Vito trick the aliens into thinking that Vito's pizza is the worst in the universe? I love that my boys enjoyed watching Garfield and that the episodes were not scary for them.

Interested, you can buy The Garfield Show: Spooky Tails at Amazon for $11.70.

Disclosure: I received a copy of the DVD to review. No other compensation was received. All opinions are my own and are my honest opinion of the product.

Scared Shrekless and Monsters vs Aliens Halloween Party DVD Pack Review

My boys both love to watch the Shrek movies as well as Monsters vs Aliens, so they were super excited when they heard that some of their favorite characters would be in a new Halloween DVD. Released on September 27th, this double DVD pack is sure to get your kids ready for Halloween. Here is the synopsis of both movies:

In Scared Shrekless, the gang gathers to celebrate Shrek’s favorite holiday: Halloween!  But instead of the usual tricks or treats, Shrek ups the ante and challenges everyone to spend the night telling scary stories—the last one to be scared Shrekless wins.  The DVD includes spooky spoofs on classics horror movies and features the voices of Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz and Antonio Banderas.

Monsters vs. Aliens: Mutant Pumpkins from Outer Space finds Susan, B.O.B., The Missing Link, and Dr. Cockroach, Ph.D. dispatched as special operatives to investigate a mysterious alien presence on Halloween.  As the night unravels, innocent-looking pumpkins are revealed for what they really are – mutant aliens!  Luckily the monsters are there to smash the mutants’ wicked scheme to take over Earth.  Monsters vs. Aliens: Mutant Pumpkins from Outer Space features the star-studded cast of voice talent from the original hit film including Reese Witherspoon, Seth Rogen, Hugh Laurie, Will Arnett, Kiefer Sutherland and Rainn Wilson.

Our thoughts: Although we knew that we would be sent both the DVD and a Halloween pack, we were so surprised when we opened up the box. What a way to prepare to watch Scared Shrekless! We were sent Shrek gloves and ears, Ogre Snot (green licorice), Donkey Droppings (green jellybeans), Swamp slugs (gummy worms), popcorn, and a Shrek Trick or Treat container. The boys absolutely loved the gloves and ears and couldn't wait to open up the candy. It was time to start the movies. We started with Monsters vs Aliens: Mutant Pumpkins from Outer Space. I thought it was a cute movie, just perfect for my two boys. And I love that it points out that too much candy is not a good thing! Next we put in Scared Shrekless. In this DVD, there are spoofs of classic horror movies such as Psycho, but of course since my two boys are young, they had no idea. To them, it was just a story shared by some of their favorite characters from Shrek and as long as it has Puss in Boots in it they are happy. I always enjoy the songs in the Shrek movies, so I was excited to watch the parody of Michael's Jackson's Thriller. Both movies are perfect for my two boys because although they are made for Halloween, they are not scary!

Disclosure: I received a Halloween pack of goodies as well as a copy of the DVD to review. No other compensation was received. All opinions are my own and my honest opinion of the products.

A Cinderella Story: Once Upon A Song DVD Review

I think growing up many girls love the story of Cinderella and hope that one day they will marry their Prince Charming. I know that I loved watching fairy tales as a child. So I was excited to review A Cinderella Story: Once Upon a Song, a new twist on the classic story. Here is the synopsis:

A Cinderella Story: Once Upon a Song is a modern and enchanting twist on a enduring classic! Katie (Lucy Hale) dreams of being a recording artist but is continually thwarted by her cruel stepmother (Missi Pyle) and stepsister (Megan Park). When Katie falls hard for Luke (Freddie Stroma), the new boy at her Performing Arts school, she tries to get his attention with her singing. But when her stepsister takes credit for Katie's amazing voice and Luke falls for the wrong girl, Katie must learn to stand up for her dreams before her stepmother forces Katie to sing Luke into the arms of her wicked stepsister at the Semester Talent Showcase.

My thoughts: With two boys at home, I did end up watching the movie by myself. But that's okay-I found it funny and entertaining. I love movies with lots of singing, and this was no exception. I did not know that Lucy Hale or Freddie Stroma could sing-and they were quite good. The songs were fun and catchy! So if you are looking for a light-hearted comedy/romance, you might want to check out this movie.

Disclosure: I received a copy of the DVD to review. No other compensation was received. All opinions are my own and my honest opinion of the product.

Book Review: I Believe in You

Life can be hard sometimes, even for little kids. I know at times I think how easy it would be to be a kid again-not needing to worry about the stresses life brings our way. But being a kid is not always easy as well. I think about my oldest who does not always want to go to school and does not like to do his homework. He wants to play with the neighborhood kids, but they are a little older than him and like to play football. He doesn't know quite yet how to play himself. I think that it is important for every kid to feel like someone believes in them, and that is the focus of Marianne Richmond's latest release, I Believe in You. Here is a little about the book:

This heartfelt book explores the powerful feeling in every parent's heart as you watch a child take on the big job of growing up. An inspiring and meaningful book, I Believe in You puts into words the little moments that reveal just how much you believe in them, no matter what life throws their way. Showing you will be by their side can mean the world to them and give them the strength they often so desperately need. I Believe in You encourages kids to look within to find they have all they need to succeed - and to know they always have someone cheering them on.

My favorite part of the book are the last few lines:

"Your job of growing up takes hard work, I know, but each day is an adventure. Each problem helps you grow. And I want you to remember, I'm here to watch the ride. I believe in one amazing you with all my love and pride!"

I read this book with my oldest son, who is seven, and he enjoyed it. It is an adorable book and has a wonderful message for kids to hear- that we are always behind them, supporting them, loving them, and believing in them.

Disclosure: I received a copy of the book to review. No other compensation was received. All opinions are my own and are my honest opinion of the book.

Kidtoons: Spookley The Square Pumpkin Giveaway

As Halloween approaches, the thoughts of costumes, candy, and pumpkins come to mind. So it is perfect that this month's Kidtoons' movie is Spookley The Square Pumpkin. Here is the synopsis:

In a world where "the only good pumpkins are round pumpkins," Spookley the Square Pumpkin is often teased by the other pumpkins because of his square shape. Soon, Spookley is befriended by Edgar, Allan and Poe, three hilarious spiders, who convince Spookley that, square or not, he has a right to be the "Pick of the Patch" on Halloween. A square pumpkin the "Pick of the Patch"? Not if mean round pumpkins Big Tom and Little Tom can help it. These two bullies tease and taunt Spookley because of his square roots. Although he is encouraged to continue to become the "Pick of the Patch" by kindly Jack Scarecrow and his bat sidekicks, Boris and Bella, Spookley isn't sure he has what it takes until a mighty storm threatens to destroy the entire patch. As the storm rolls the round pumpkins across  the patch towards a raging river below, Spookley's square shape helps him save the day.  Spookley realizes "it's fine to be round while the weather is fair, but there are times it's better to be a square!"

This month is also National Bullying Prevention Month, and Spookley has been named the Spokes-Pumpkin through a partnership with the PACER Center. Based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the PACER Center works to expand opportunities and enhance the quality of life of all children and young adults, including those with any disability, and their families, based on the concept of parents helping parents.

The Looney Tunes Show Season 1 Volume 1 DVD Review

Over the summer, my boys caught an episode of The Looney Tunes Show on TV and they loved it. So they were thrilled when we received The Looney Tunes Show Season 1 Volume 1 DVD to review. Recently released in stores on September 27, here is the synopsis:

In The Looney Tunes Show, screen icons Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck return in this all-new modern comedy series, joined by fan-favorite Looney Tunes characters. Bugs and Daffy haven't changed - but their living situation has. Bugs is as brazen, sarcastic and ahead-of-the-game as ever, and Daffy, despite his narcissistic, sociopathic and paranoid tendencies, is Bugs' best friend and seemingly permanent houseguest. No longer confined to seven-minute shorts, their larger-than-life personalities (and egos) offer an irreverent, comical take on our modern world and introduce a whole new realm of possibilities. Now Bugs and Daffy can wreck as much havoc at the grocery store or the DMV as they once did in the forest.

Rounding out the cast are Porky Pig, Lola, Yosemite Sam, Foghorn Leghorn, the Tasmanian Devil, Marvin the Martian, Tweety, Sylvester, Granny, Gossamer and the newest character of the bunch, Daffy's no-nonsense girlfriend, Tina. The series also features Merrie Melodies-animated music videos of original songs spotlighting everyone from Elmer Fudd to Pepe Le Pew-plus all new adventures with the Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote in stunning CG.

Our thoughts: For family movie night, my two boys and myself sat down and watched all four episodes. In the first episode called Best Friends, Bugs and Daffy's friendship is tested on a game show. I enjoyed this episode the best of the four as it challenges Daffy to become a better friend to Bugs. In the second episode called Jailbird and Jailbunny, Daffy gets caught littering. Due to the fact that he doesn't want to admit he was wrong and pay a $50 fine, Bugs and Daffy end up in jail because of contempt. This was my oldest son's favorite episode of the four as he found it funny how each coped with being in jail. In the third episode, Members Only, Daffy pretends to be a member of a country club. When Daffy brings Bugs as his guest, Bugs meets Lola Bunny who falls for him. In the last episode called Fish and Visitors, Yosemite Sam is invited to stay at Bugs and Daffy's house during a power outage and drives the duo crazy.

Watching the crazy adventures of Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck reminded me of my childhood days- and I love it that my boys enjoyed these characters as well.  Same old characters, but great new episodes.

Sodastream Review

For about a year now I have been keeping my eye on Sodastream. I have read reviews online and seen it sold in stores and thought what a cool idea. It was just something that I wanted to try out. I was very excited when I found out that I was going to be given the chance to review one of the Sodastream systems. It would also make a perfect addition to our new home.

When my Sodastream package came in the mail, I immediately opened it up and wanted to try it. I was sent the Fountain Jet with one 60 liter Carbonator, one carbonating bottle, ten Sodamix flavors, and a MyWater Flavor Essence variety three pack. The first time, I made the soda myself. It was extremely easy. I just filled the carbonating bottle with water and let it chill in the refrigerator. A while later, I hooked up the Carbonator to the Fountain Jet and then twisted the carbonating bottle in. Next I pushed down on the top button three times to add carbonation. It is important that you push down so that it actually buzzes. Last I unhooked the bottle and added a flavor. It was so easy, that the next time we made soda, I let my two boys ages 4 and 7 help out.

My thoughts: I love a few things about Sodastream. First of all it is easy to use and does not require batteries or electricity. Second, it is cheaper than regular soda in the store (of course, after the initial purchase). One soda mix is equal to 33 cans of soda or 12 liters. If you buy just one sodamix online it can cost anywhere from $5 to $10, but they also offer a 12 pack variety mix for $9.99. Last, it takes up less room in my closet or refrigerator-and no more recycling. So far we have tried out three flavors: cola, diet lemon-lime, and cranberry-raspberry. My favorite of the three was cranberry-raspberry, but I can't wait to try out the rest.

So if you are looking for a perfect Christmas gift for that soda-lover, you might want to check out Sodastream.

SmartKnitKIDS Review and Giveaway

My son is picky when it comes to putting on socks. He only likes a particular style-and they have to fit just right. They can not be too big or too small. Some days it takes him quite a few minutes to put on his socks. And he always turns them inside out so that the seam doesn't bother him. This can be frustrating at times, so I started to look for places online that sold seamless socks and came across SmartKnitKIDS.

Here is a little about SmartKnitKIDS Seamless Socks:

SmartKnitKIDS® patented seamless socks are perfect for children experiencing sensory processing differences, hypersensitivity or who simply can't stand annoying seams! These super soft socks for sensitive little feet will not wrinkle or bunch and are proven to reduce irritation.

Our thoughts: We received three pairs of socks to review-two for my oldest son and one for myself. My son was skeptical when I gave them to him to put them on for school. They looked like they might be a little tight on him. But these socks are an answer to prayer. He loved them! They fit perfectly and he did not have to worry about turning them inside out. Before he would say that sometimes his socks hurt his feet-but not with his SmartKnit socks. I also tried out a pair of socks and they are comfortable. I have to admit, I prefer not to wear socks at all-especially when then bunch up. But with my SmarkKnit socks there is no bunching.

Win it: SmartKnitKIDS is offering one lucky reader a chance to win three pairs of socks.

Mandatory Entry: Leave me a comment letting me know who you would like to win the socks for.
