Seventh Generation Cleanhouse Challenge and Giveaway

When I first got married, I did not like cleaning. Tidying up was okay, but the chemicals in our cleaning products were not. Strong smells bother me and that even includes perfumes and lotions. Cleaning products, however, are the worst and often the smell of them can make me sick. I am glad that now when I shop there are many more options for "greener" cleaning products that can be found in stores.

One set of "greener" products I have been using over the last few weeks is from Seventh Generation. When asked if I would review their products, of course, I said yes. However, I did not realize how much I would love them. I was sent products from their new home care line, as well as their baby line and cold care kit. Today my focus will be on their home care line, but look out for future posts about their other products.

Seventh Generation sent me five USDA Certified Biobased products to try out, including three new specialty cleaners for Wood, Granite/Stone, and Stainless Steel. These cleaners are made from non-toxic, biodegradable formulas, as well as a unique blend of plant-based ingredients and organic coconut oil. The first product I tried out was the Wood Cleaner. My boys had recently gotten yogurt on our entertainment set so I got to work cleaning and polishing it up. While using the product I did not need to worry about harsh fumes that would make me feel sick and it certainly cleaned up our entertainment set well.  I also loved that it did not leave a greasy feeling on my furniture when I was finished cleaning. This product is reasonably priced at $4.99 for an 18 oz bottle.

Besides the cleaners, I received the Hand Care Dish Liquid with fragrances from essential oils and botanical extracts. The Hand Care Dish Liquid comes in Lavender and Vanilla, as well as Free and Clear. The formula contains Advanced HerbaVera Moisturizing Technology, so it's gentle on both your hands and the earth. It is also non-toxic, biodegradable, and is available online for $3.49 each. Not only did the Hand Care Dish Liquid do a great job cleaning through the food and grease on my dishes, but I also loved how it felt on my hands.

The last product we tried was the Natural Laundry Detergent Packs, which do not contain dyes, synthetic fragrances, nor optical brighteners. It is easy cleaning my laundry with the Detergent Packs-just pop in one pack for a regular load or two for a large or heavily soiled load. These packs are effective in hot or cold water and come in two sizes-30 count for $9.99 or the 50 Count for $14.99.

After using Seventh Generation's products for the last few weeks, I am definitely impressed and I love the fact that the products I am using are healthier for my family. If you are interested in learning more about green cleaning tips you should check out the Cleanhouse Challenge, which was launched by Seventh Generation and Real Simple. It is a Facebook Application where you take a tour through a virtual home and during the tour you are provided with green cleaning tips, eco-friendly instructions and Seventh Generation product coupons. The Cleanhouse Challenge runs from September 6 until October 31. Click here to take the Challenge.
