RISE OF THE GUARDIANS Review

When RISE OF THE GUARDIANS came out in the theater, my husband took our boys to see it and they really enjoyed it. Since I stayed home with our little one, I knew I would just have to wait for it to come out on Blu-ray. With Easter right around the corner, it is the perfect time to buy RISE OF THE GUARDIANS. Right now, while supplies last, you can buy the movie which includes two hopping toy eggs similar those in the movie. Here is a little about the movie from the press release:

DreamWorks Animation's newest animated adventure has captured the imagination of audiences worldwide with a fun-filled and magical story about the legendary guardians -Jack Frost, the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy and Sandman - together for the first time! When the evil Pitch threatens to take over the world, it's up to our beloved heroes to protect the hopes and dreams of children everywhere. Filled with non-stop action and laughs, it's a dazzling family film that's being hailed as "an instant classic" (Nancy Jay, Daybreak USA).

Our thoughts: I was thrilled to have the chance to review RISE OF THE GUARDIANS, and my boys were so excited when the box came in the mail. Not only were we lucky enough to receive a copy to review, but the package contained some great ideas for the makings of an Easter basket. Inside the box was the movie, a tote bag, Bunny ears, a RISE OF THE GUARDIANS night light, tattoos, egg decorations, a watering can, candy (including PEEPS), and a flower pot with seeds to plant. The boys loved everything in it, and couldn't wait to watch the movie again.

The movie is about Pitch's evil plan to make children stop believing in Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, and the Sandman. He plans to replace the hope children have in the world with fear. It is up to these four Guardians, and a newly appointed Guardian, Jack Frost, to protect the children from Pitch and drive away their fear. In the process, Jack Frost will be a new character for children to believe in.

We sat down and watched RISE OF THE GUARDIANS for our family movie night, and we loved it! Of course the boys had already seen it, but I was very impressed with movie. The story was entertaining from beginning to end, and the characters were delightful. My husband enjoyed the portrayal of Santa Claus, loving the fact that not only did he have tattoos, but muscles as well. I really liked the portrayal of the Tooth Fairy, who was half human and half hummingbird. I love the idea that each child's tooth that she collects captures their most precious memories, and her job is to keep these memories safe until the children need to be reminded of them.

Although two of the main characters are Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny, I wouldn't consider it a holiday movie because it also contains Jack Frost, the Tooth Fairy, the Sandman, and Pitch. Personally I would watch this movie any time of the year. It is possible that small children might be afraid of Pitch. However,  I feel that the other five characters really outshine the villain, and at the end of the movie, the children decide that the Boogeyman is no one to fear.

This movie was perfect for our family movie night and one that I can see us watching over and over! It definitely would make a great Easter gift-especially with the two hopping toy eggs that come with it.

Disclosure: I received a copy of the movie and the viewing kit to review. No other compensation was received. All opinions are my own and are my honest opinion of the movie.
