Snow White and The Huntsman Review

Synopsis: In this spectacular action-adventure, Kristen Stewart (Twilight) is Snow White, the only woman in the land fairer than the evil queen Ravenna (Oscar® winner Charlize Theron). Ravenna wants nothing more than to destroy her young rival, but she doesn't know that Snow White has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) the queen dispatched to kill her. Together with a handsome prince (Sam Claflin) enchanted by Snow White's beauty and power, they assemble an armed force to recapture the kingdom. This breathtaking new vision of the legendary tale from Joe Roth, the producer of Alice in Wonderland and acclaimed commercial director and state-of-the-art visualist Rupert Sanders is, in the words of Shawn Edwards, Fox-TV, "A film that soars with creativity, stylistic genius and amazing battle scenes."

My thoughts: As I little girl I loved the story of Snow White, so I was excited to be able to review a new version of the story. Snow White and the Huntsman is definitely much different than the fairy tale I grew up with. This is a story of how Snow White fights to regain control over her kingdom. The fairy tale I grew up with was perfect for a young girl. To me, Snow White and the Huntsman is a fairy tale for adults. It focuses on the wickedness of the Evil Queen and her black magic, how dangerous the Dark Forest is, and ultimately the battle between good and evil to fight for the kingdom.

This movie captured my interest for a few reasons. First, I thought that Charlize Theron did an amazing job as Queen Ravenna. Second, I was interested in the story of the Huntsman. In my childhood fairy tale, he played a minor role, but in this movie he is a major character. As I watched the movie, I wondered who will be the one to save Snow White when she is poisoned-the Huntsman or her childhood friend, William?  Last, I was interested in watching the battle between Snow White and Queen Ravenna. After seeing the trailer months ago, I knew that this was one movie I wanted to see. After watching it, I am glad that I did. If you are looking for a new twist to the story of Snow White, I would recommend checking out this movie.

Disclosure: I received a copy of the movie to review. No other compensation was received. All opinions are my own and are my honest opinion of the movie.

  1. Have not seen it yet. I have it downloaded, just haven't gotten around to watching it. Sometime soon, I hope. :) Great review.
