Senseez Pillow Review

Disclosure: I received a pillow to review. No other compensation was received. All opinions are my own and are my honest opinion of the product.

One of my boys has Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD). When he was young, we noticed that he did not like the feel of his socks. It would take him forever to put them on. Since the seams on his socks bother him, he often will wear them inside out. As I researched seamless socks, I came across SPD for the first time and I knew that is what he had. Sensory Processing Disorder is a condition that exists when sensory signals do not get organized into appropriate responses. As we learned more about SPD, it helped us realize that many of his behaviors were linked to SPD. He is constantly on the move, he is an extremely picky eater, he is very loud when he plays yet does not realize how loud he is, and he is easily overwhelmed (just to name a few).

I am always looking for products that might help my son cope with SPD, so I was excited to be able to review the Senseez Pillow. The Senseez Pillow is a vibrating pillow for kids. This pillow is great for kids who have trouble sitting for a long time and can be helpful for children with Autism, ADHD, and SPD. Here is the story about how the Senseez Pillow was created from their website:

Senseez. To ease the senses.

Let me tell you the story of how Senseez was created...

When my son was 2, he was diagnosed with a special need. One of his difficulties was sitting in one place long enough to eat his meal, read a story, or sit for circle time.

I spoke to an occupational therapist who recommended a vibrating mat to help with this. I bought one for my son, and he instantly loved the sensations!

But one day, I wanted to take him to our local library for story telling, and though the mat would help... it was large, black, heavy, and had to be plugged in. I was also concerned about my son looking different or standing out with this large mat.

So I went on a search to find a small, lightweight, portable pillow that would offer the same sensations that he could take with him. I couldn't find one!

So Senseez was born!

Our thoughts: We received the Orange Circle Pillow to review, but Senseez Pillows come in different colors and shapes. It is lightweight, so it is easy to transport, and it is made of vinyl, so it is easy to clean as well. As soon as it arrived in the mail, my son could not wait to try it out. His comments on the pillow are: "It is awesome! I love it!" When I asked him why he liked it, he explained that it helps him calm down and it is relaxing. He even stated that when he has a bad day, it usually helps him. The pillow works on compression so when he sits on it, it starts the vibrations. Inside the pillow there are a few layers of foam in which the vibe pack lies.

My son has been using the pillow for over a month now and he carries it all over the house. He likes to use it when he sits to watch TV, and he also will use it when he is reading in bed. I have definitely noticed that vibrations have a calming effect on him! Although he has just used it at home, I am thinking that it might be time to try it out at other places like the dentist or barber. He does not like to sit for either of them so the pillow just might help. If you have a child that has trouble sitting still, I would definitely recommend the Senseez Pillow.

  1. I have SPD and ADD as well, so I can totally relate to your son! I am constantly bothered by a myriad of different textures and sounds. I also have a hard time sitting still. I understand how this pillow could probably help a child or even an adult relax and calm down. I agree that the big plug in mat is not a good idea to bring out in public. It will probably make your son feel different from all the other kids. The pillow is awesome though, because nobody will even notice it.

  2. This post really hits home for me, as my son also has this disorder but has gotten much better as he has gotten older. Although he has never been diagnosed, he has some mild Autism due to being born premature. There were many days before school when he would throw tantrums and scream in the morning. Tags, seams I never knew how our morning would go. Jeans were a no, no, to rough and scratchy. This is an interesting pillow and the first I hear of it. I feel I passed this on to my son as I suffer from ADHD and sensory and noise problems as well. I am glad to hear how much this helps your son. Will have to check them out, I could use one of these. :)

  5. This is a fantastic post. I had no idea these existed. I would have loved to have had them in my classroom when I was teaching! Disorders like this often go unacknowledged. Your son is very lucky to have a parent who takes it so seriously. Thanks for sharing something so personal. I'm sure it will help many others!
