Since my boys enjoy reading the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, I knew that they would be interested in watching Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days that was released on Blu-ray and DVD on December 18, 2012. Here is the synopsis of the movie:
Everybody's favorite wimp, Greg Heffley (Zachary Gordon), is back for three times the fun in the latest film based on the super-popular book series! When Greg's dad (Steve Zahn) threatens to send him to military school if he doesn't stay out of trouble, Greg finds all-new ways to land himself in the doghouse! For starters, Greg's in over his head when he pretends to work at the swanky country club where Rowley's family has a membership. Things don't go much better on a father-son camping trip with the Wilderness Explorers, and then there's the Heffley's new dog, Sweetie, who fetches even more trouble for Greg in this hilarious family film!
Our thoughts: This movie focuses on the trouble that Greg gets into on his summer vacation. If he had it his way, he would spend the whole summer playing video games. However, his mom and dad, of course, will not allow that. So he finds himself constantly getting into trouble, disappointing his parents, and worries that his dad will send him to prep school. Despite all of the trouble he gets into, in the end he has a great summer vacation!
So what did we think? This movie kept my boys entertained throughout and was filled with plenty of laughs! I think that my two boys could relate to Greg because there are days where they wish they could play video games all day long! Not only was the movie funny, but it taught a lesson as well. By the end of the movie, Greg learns the importance of being honest, as well as responsible for his actions. If your kids love the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, then this is definitely a movie I think they would enjoy!
Disclosure: I received a copy of the movie to review. No other compensation was received. All opinions are my own and are my honest opinion of the movie.
