For Christmas, my boys got a Wii. They want to be on it all the time, so my husband and I often have to sent time limits. Last night we suggested that we should have family game night. We tried out a new game by Hasbro, called Ratuki. I played the game with my husband and oldest son, who is almost 7 years old. The suggested age for this game is 8+. We played the first hand very slowly so that we could all learn the rules.
Play fast, play frantic, play RATUKI! Build piles of cards from 1 to 5-it really is that simple. But watch out! It's a card-slamming frenzy from start to finish! Be the first to slam a 5 on top of the deck, shout "RATUKI!" and the cards are yours.
My thoughts: I enjoyed playing this game for family game night. We tried to keep the pace a little slower to help out my oldest son, and although he was a little upset when he didn't win, he really loved the game. He also liked that his deck of cards was purple-his favorite color. The cards are numbered 1 - 5 in different styles. Some cards had the numbers 1 - 5, some cards had the number words (one, two, etc.), some cards had a die on it showing the number, some cards showed a hand, and some cards had lines. A round is very quick, and so the goal is to play multiple rounds until one person reaches 100 points. To keep score you add the cards that you won and from that total you subtract the cards you had left in your pile. This is a great way for my son to learn addition and subtraction facts, as well as introducing the idea of a negative number. We can't wait to play again!
Disclosure: I received a copy of the game to review. No other compensation was received. All opinions are my own and are my honest opinion of the product.
