We have a tradition in our house on New Year's Eve. My husband and I take a few moments and jot down all of the memorable moments of the year. These include memories that are happy, sad, and even those events that frustrated us. In the past, we even included our New Year's Resolutions. But each year, we would read the resolution of the year before and realize we never obtained that goal. So the last year or so, we decided not to make any resolutions.
Today, however, I was listening to K-Love and heard about My One Word. What if each year, instead of focusing on our goals for ourselves, we focused more on what God would like us to become? The idea is simple. First, determine what kind of person you would like to be by the end of this year. Consider what type of person God would like you to become. What are the qualities and the characteristics of that type of person? Last, choose a single word to focus on for this year. Despite the fact that you may be tempted to change a bunch of things, focus and commit to one word.
So this year, I have decided to join this experiment. It will be a challenge for the year. The minute I heard about it, it intrigued me and a few different words popped into my head. I have decided to pray about what word God wants me to focus on. This year will not be able what I would like to change about myself, but what God wants me to change about myself.
