The Gratitude Challenge Day 11 (Continued)

The next challenge states: Try to see the world through the eyes of a child. Think about the things you take for granted on a daily basis, and then express gratitude for everything down to the basic necessities that sustain your current life.

It occurred to me this weekend how much we take for granted. There is a nurse who spoke at my mom's church a few months ago about her trip to Brazil. She said that a lot of the children will get parasites that enter their body through their feet because they do not have shoes. So for the past few months, my mom and son have been collecting shoes for these children. My son was amazed that there were children who did not have shoes and was interested in helping them. So with my mom's help he asked his school friends if they would donate old shoes. This project grew and even students in a local college decided to join in and help out. The nurse will be traveling back to Brazil in January with a surprise for these children and some adults too.

Today was Make a Difference Day, and my mom organized this day to pack up the shoes in boxes. Even today, many donations came in for the children. So far, they have collected 1500 pairs of shoes.

It is just encouraging how much people will reach out to others. And it reminded me how much we take for granted-especially the many basic necessities. I am so grateful for the blessings God has provided me-especially a home, clothes and shoes, food, and most importantly my family.
