Yogi Bear Review

Watch out for your picnic basket, Yogi Bear is back! Yogi Bear was just released on Blu-ray Combo Pack, as well as DVD on March 22. Growing up, I can remember watching Yogi Bear on cartoons, so I was excited to watch the latest release with my family. Here is a synopsis from the press release:

Everyone's favorite pic-a-nik basket-stealing bear brings his meal-mooching ways to movies in this live-action/CG-animated adventure starring Dan Aykroyd as the voice of Jellystone Park's famed troublemaker Yogi Bear and Justin Timberlake as the voice of Yogi's faithful pal Boo Boo. Jellystone has been losing business, so conniving Mayor Brown has decided to shut it down and sell the land. Faced with the loss of his home, Yogi must prove he really is "smarter than the average bear" as he and Boo Boo join forces with Ranger Smith to find a way to save the park from closing forever. Anna Faris, Tom Cavanaugh, TJ Miller and Andrew Daly co-star in this wonderful new incarnation of Hanna-Barbera's classic cartoon.

Our thoughts:
My kids love this movie. We have already watched it twice. My oldest son's favorite part was watching Yogi try to steal picnic baskets. My favorite part is watching Yogi Bear perform his waterskiing routine, which of course, ends in disaster for the park. Throughout the movie, it seems that Yogi has trouble listening to directions. This is a great theme for kids to see. Because Yogi did not listen to Ranger Smith's direction to stay away from Jellystone Park's 100th Centennial Celebration, he destroyed the chance for the park to meet its budget, allowing Mayor Brown to close down the park. It seems at first, that Yogi is not really "smarter than the average bear." When the park is closed and Ranger Smith gets reassigned to another park, it looks like both Ranger Smith and Yogi have given up. But when Yogi finds out that the trees are being cut down, he perseveres and helps save the park.

Looking for a great movie to watch with your kids? I would definitely recommend Yogi Bear. You can check out the official site here.

Disclosure: I received a copy of the DVD in exchange for this post. All opinions are my own and are my honest opinion.

  2. It's interesting how we notice the messages in kids movies now that we're parents but it wasn't so obvious when we were kids (at least that's me). They learn without realizing it!

I wasn't sure how this one would be, so I'm glad to hear your family likes it!
